Elaborado por Paciano Cruz Nolasco, Ron Cooper prob\u00f3 este elixir por primera vez en un peque\u00f1o restaurante de Tlacolula, Oaxaca, y condujo hasta la remota aldea por un camino recientemente abierto en el valle monta\u00f1oso, \u00e1rido y tropical del r\u00edo Red Ant por Paciano y otros hombres de la aldea. La propuesta de Ron de vender el mezcal en San Luis del R\u00edo a un mercado indefinido cay\u00f3 en o\u00eddos sordos; todos, excepto Paciano. Ambos creyeron el uno en el otro, forjaron una amistad que ha perdurado durante d\u00e9cadas y una responsabilidad mutua por creer en su oficio.
